Tour Details

This National Park is a mountain formation located on the north of the eastern mountain range of Colombia, on the department of Boyaca. The highest peaks of this National Park are covered with snow and this place has the largest snow mass of Colombia. The lowest limit of the snow is 4.800 m.a.s.l. in a place that also has several lakes & waterfalls. This ecosystem has more than 22 snowy peaks having with the highest point getting till 5.330 m.a.s.l.

Price includes

Recommendations

  • In the high andean mountains you will be exposed to quick variant and sometimes inclement climate, you will also be exposed to the difference of atmospheric pressure, the temperature and the oxigen. The wind and the rain also imply situations with certain risk. For this it is important to take into account:
  • It is important to have an appropriate and minimum decent physical condition due to the demanding hikes you will have.
  • It is definitely not advisable to attend the activity if you suffer cardiovascular illness, chronic asthma, epilepsy, among others.
  • Pregnant woman, kids under 12 years, adults older than 70 years old or people with overweight should present medical note in order to do the activity.
  • It is forbidden to take alcoholic or psicoactive substances before or during the expeditions.
  • The use of googles with UV Protection on the snow-border line is advisable.
  • We recommend to not to take luxury unnecesary articles for the expedition.

What to take?

  • Appropriate clothes for cold weather: Minimum 2 Jackets, 2 Pants, Several pairs of socks (or alternatively thermal socks)
  • Appropriate Footwear: waterproof boots or 2 pairs of boots and at least 1 pair of sneakers for change because there might be rain or momments where the feet might get wet completely.
  • Sunglasses, Sunscreen, gloves for the cold and flashlight for the night.
  • Non-disposable water bottle (The water is drinkable in several points of the trails)
  • All transportation in destination location
  • Take cautions for your electronic devices because they might be susceptible of damages due to the humidity and rain in the area.
  • Cap, hat and/or protection from the sun and for the head..
  • Personal documents and medical insurance.

  • Transportation Bogotá – Cocuy – Bogotá (or from any other city), which we can help you to coordinate by ground.

  • 34.500 COP - Colombians older than 25 years old.

Itinerary

Day 1

(07:00) – Meeting at “Guican” town, after that breakfast in typical restaurant and registration & talk with El Cocuy national park authorities, then you will take a guided tour in the town with historical and indigenous thematic. Later on you will have lunch in the town and then you will be taken in 4×4 cars to the cabin where you will do the check-in. Subsequently you will do an acclimatization hike of 4 Kms in the sorrounding area and at night you will have dinner and rest in the comfortable cabin with Wi-Fi and hot showers.

Day 2

 (04:30) – Breakfast in the cabin and then transportation in 4×4 vehicles to the middle entrance of the National Park (3900 m.a.s.l.), where you will begin the hike of the day towars “Laguna Grande de la Sierra Area” attempting to get to the snow border-line at 4900 m.a.s.l. having an outdoors lunch on the way and then starting the hike back to the national park entrance completing a trek of approximately 20 Kms of lenght. Then you will be transported back to the cabin in 4×4 vehicles and will have dinner and rest there.

Day 3

(04:30) – Breakfast in the cabin and then transportation in 4×4 vehicles to the northern entrance of the National Park (3900 m.a.s.l.), where you will begin the hike of the day towars “Ritak´uwa Blanco Area” attempting to get to the snow border-line at 4900 m.a.s.l. passing by the “rio playitas valley”, having an outdoors lunch on the way and then starting the hike back to the national park entrance completing a trek of approximately 13 Kms of lenght. Then you will be transported back in 4×4 to the cabin where you will have dinner and time to rest again in the cabin.

Day 4

(07:30) – Breakfast in the cabin and then transportation in 4×4 vehicles to the hot springs of Guican where you will be able to recover in the natural hot springs of the area and have a relaxation day where you will also have the chance to experience more about the local life at the area an will enjoy some traditional food and see some community processes that takes place in the villages, in the afternoon you will be taken back to the cabin in order to have dinner, rest and prepare for the last day of expedition.br>
